README File - SolidMap 2009 We appreciate your purchase of SolidMap! To report any issues found with using the SolidMap 2009 product or to give feedback on how to improve the SolidMap 2009 product, please email support@solidmap.com. Prerequisites ============= SolidMap 2009 is an add-in product to SolidWorks 2009, it is NOT a standalone application. You must have SolidWorks 2009 installed to run SolidMap 2009. In addition, you must have the Microsoft .NET Framework v3.5 or higher installed to run the application. The installer will check for this before it installs the software. Information on how to download this .NET framework can be found at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/default.aspx. SolidMap 2009 runs on the supported platforms for SolidWorks 2009: - 32-bit Windows Vista - 32-bit Windows XP - 64-bit Windows Vista - 64-bit Windows XP Installing SolidMap 2009 ======================== Like most applications, SolidMap 2009 should be installed by the Administrator account or an account that has administrative privileges for that local machine. To run the installer, download the appropriate SolidMap2009_.exe file that you purchased. From an explorer dialog right-click on the .exe file and choose "Run as Administrator" (in Windows Vista). You can then follow the dialogs to install SolidMap 2009. Licensing SolidMap 2009 ======================= SolidMap 2009 gives you a 14-day Trial Period from when you first launch the application. This allows for a "Try & Buy" scenario. It also gives you time to procure your software license and still be able to use the product. When you first run SolidMap 2009 the Evaluation Dialog will appear. This tells you how many days remaining you have in the Trial Period. At this dialog you have the option of: 1) Continue to use SolidMap 2009 and license the product later. 2) Step through the Registration Key creation process. NOTE - Once the 14-day Trial Period has expired, you MUST have a SolidMap 2009 license to run the product. Please plan accordingly. Creating a Registration Key is a process where SolidMap creates a unique Registration Key for your software on your machine. You only need to follow the dialog prompts to create one and specify where to store the file on your machine. Once the Registration Key is created, you will need to email that file to license@solidmap.com. The SolidMap team will then send you back a license file based on this Registration Key that is unique to your software and machine. Once you receive the license file (license.txt) file back from SolidMap, this file should be place in the directory where you installed SolidMap 2009 (c:\Program Files\KollabNet\SolidMap 2009 is the default directory, you may have changed this during the installation process). The license file MUST be in that directory so it can be picked up by the application and duly registered. NOTE - Do NOT manually edit the license.txt file, doing so will make it no longer valid. Running SolidMap 2009 ===================== If the SolidMap menu does not appear across the top of the SolidWorks 2009 window from the start, you will need to manually include the SolidMap 2009 application as an add-in to SolidWorks. Choose the Tools -> Add-ins option from the SolidWorks 2009 Menu. A dialog will appear showing you the many SolidWorks 2009 available add-in applications. SolidMap 2009 will appear near the bottom of the list. We recommend checking the right and left boxes to have SolidMap 2009 appear each time you start SolidWorks 2009. Once the SolidMap 2009 application is registered as an add-in for SolidWorks 2009, you can invoke the application from either the SolidMap menu or from the SolidMap toolbar. You can use the File, Mates, or External References view modes at any time without any part of the assembly or part file selected. You must first select a Feature in the assembly/part file before you can call the Parent/Child or Feature/Sketch view modes. If you want to see more detail than what is shown in the default view, you can choose to show "Both" Parent and Child nodes and you can also specify the number of steps/levels available. These selections are available in drop down controls on the SolidMap window. Once you change these, the screen background will turn grey, and you will need to click on the "Reset Design Map" toolbar button to update the SolidMap with these new choices. If you want, you can move around the nodes manually to space them out to your personal preference. If you want to re-draw the lines straight to the new node positions, you can do so using the "Refresh Links" toolbar icon on the SolidMap 2009 window. If you want to re-draw the Design Map to the way it was by default - use the "Reset Design Map" toolbar icon. If you have made changes to your assembly or part file and want to have these reflected in your current Design Map, you can do so by either using the SolidMap 2009 Tools -> Update File Relationships menu item, or you can re-start your SolidMap 2009 session. If you mouse over a Relationship Link in any View Mode, detail about the type of link and the direction will appear. If you need to increase the size of any of the columns in the detail grid, simply grab the right edge of the column and drag it to extend the width of the column. If you need any further information, please check out the www.solidmap.com web site. We will be updating it periodically with new information about the product.
